Butterfly Cloches

Capture a Victorian cabinet-of-curiosities vibe—minus all the hunting and gathering—with faux butterflies. To create the vignette shown here, we applied a technique featured in the book Design*Sponge at Home to a graceful glass dome ($125; jaysonhomeandgarden.com). Using a serrated knife, cut a one-inch thick circle piece of Styrofoam into a five-inch circle. Next, cut a nine-inch circle from black velvet. Pull the fabric over the Styrofoam until taut and affix underneath with straight pins. Using our photo as a guide, cut pieces of 22-guage wire to various heights that fit within the dome. Place a dot of superglue on one wire end before sliding it into a butterfly’s body; hold in place until dry. Repeat for each butterfly. Finally, insert the wires into the Styrofoam base, then top with the glass.

Papier-Mâché Marquee Letter

Take a cue from vintage movie theater marquees and put your name in “lights”—no wiring required. Use a craft knife to cut off the front of a papier-mâché letter ($4.99, joann.com), then paint it your desired color and let dry. Affix small gold Christmas ornaments (about 1” diameter) with hot glue. That’s a wrap!

Easter is also another happy time of the year which calls for craft making. There are lots of ideas too so do not assume that you are limited to painting eggs.

Delicious Vase Display

Easter candy is not only delicious, it is colorful and beautiful. If you love having candy sitting around and you want to use that candy to create a great Easter display, this is the perfect project for you. You just need a glass vase and loads of Easter themed candies. Robin eggs, jelly beans and marshmallow Peeps are perfect for this project, especially since Peeps now come in multiple colors. You can add flowers to the top or a nice ribbon – whatever you prefer.

Colorful Chick Placeholders

Fill your Easter Dinner table with holiday cheer when you create these adorable and very colorful placeholders. You will need a small terra cotta garden pot for each person at your table. The chicks are made with plastic spoons and you can paint the placeholders all the same color or make a unique color combination for each dinner guest. Hang a sign on the chicks with the names of your guests and you will have the most colorful table in the neighborhood.
